PD Session 10: Personal Learning Networks
Definition according to the dictionary: A personal learning network is an informal learning network that consists of the people a learner interacts with and derives knowledge from in a personal learning environment. Personal Learning Networks (PLNs) are online (and face-to-face) groups of people who you support in their learning and they also support you in your learning. Social media has provided rich opportunities for learning with tools like Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Come to the session and discuss building and leveraging PLNs to support your professional growth and personal goals. Session attendance will be recorded and you will receive a certificate for the number of hours you attend throughout the year. Great for teaching license renewal. Nearpod is an interactive presentation software that allows the teacher to create slides with polls, quizzes, drawings, and other interactive tools built into the actual presentation. Nearpod also offers hundreds of pre-made presentations from publishers and other teachers in every subject area. This session is designed to support users who are basically new to Nearpod. There is a Nearpod that has been created for the session, which will help you understand the basics of the program. This session will be 10 minutes of presentation and 20 minutes of hands-on working with Nearpod. To maximize your time, view the presentation before the session and come with your questions ready for me; also, come to the session with a presentation you would like to develop in mind.

The PD session is designed to assist you with supporting students with research on the Internet. Most students are not skilled at searching the Internet and finding reliable information from credible sources. Learn tricks and tips for using the advanced features of Google for finding solid resources; plus, learn about Google Scholar and how to support students with using it to get better research results. Session attendance will be recorded and you will receive a certificate for the number of hours you attend throughout the year. Great for teaching license renewal. Design thinking can work hand-in-hand with Project Based Learning and enhance student empowerment in learning. Come to a session and learn about the Stanford d.school approach. The full 30 minutes will be spent answering your questions and workshopping how to do get the most out your students when working on projects. PD Session 5: Newsela

Newsela is a tool to improve student reading of nonfiction material. Articles are available in five different lexile levels to challenge students at the proper level. You can create our own reading sets for your students. Interactive tools allow you to annotate an article, add a writing prompt, and reading quizzes. And to make Newsela even better -- it integrates with Google Classroom. The PD session is designed to teach you the basics and advanced parts of Newsela. The first 20 minutes of each session will be explaining the features of Newsela. The next 10 minutes will be hands-on where you will  work  with Newsela.  Get your students on track to be college and career ready in 30 minutes.
